Frequently Asked Questions Retiree Fund Drive FAQ

  • What is the Annual Retiree Fund Drive?

    View

Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society is the beneficiary of the annual Retiree Fund Drive. It provides retirees with the opportunity to support fellow Marines, Sailors and their families. The Retiree Fund Drive also provides the opportunity to build awareness of NMCRS programs and services available to retired and active duty Sea Service members.

  • Is my donation tax-deductible?

    View

Yes, your donation is tax-deductible. NMCRS’ EIN is 53-0204618.

  • How do I get off the mailing list for the Retiree Fund Drive?

    View

NMCRS does not have access to the mailing list. DFAS provides the list for the mailing. If you do not wish to receive the annual Retiree Fund Drive information, you may contact DFAS directly and asked to be removed from the mailing list. Or, you may share your contact information with Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society; we will put your name on a Do Not Mail list that we submit prior to the next year’s drive.

  • How do I donate through my retiree pay?

    View

You may wish to donate to the Retiree Fund Drive through a monthly allotment from your retiree pay. Retiree allotments must be initiated by NMCRS; an individual cannot start an allotment directly through DFAS. You will need to provide NMCRS with the following information to establish an allotment: Name, rank, branch, status, address, SSN, amount of the monthly allotment. NMCRS will submit your information to DFAS. An allotment continues, in perpetuity, until the retiree asks that it be stopped.

  • May I donate by check?

  • Are there other ways I can donate?

    View

  • How can I change my allotment?

    View

You must contact NMCRS if you would like to change or stop your allotment. You will need to provide the following information: Name, rank, branch, status, address, SSN, and the change you would like to make (stop, increase or decrease). NMCRS will send your information to DFAS, who will make the change to your allotment.

PLEASE NOTE: it may take 60 days from submission until the adjustment in the allotment is made by DFAS. Once NMCRS submits the change, it is in the hands of DFAS to implement the requested change.

  • What happens each spring with a retiree allotment?

    View

Each year DFAS stops allotments on May 31 and restarts them on June 1. If a retiree has an allotment, the retiree does not need to do anything to have it continue.

The old allotment and new allotment may appear on the retiree account statement simultaneously. When the end-of-month processing runs, the old allotment will be archived and the new allotment will be deducted from the July payment.

  • I have an allotment, and requested that it be stopped. Why is it still active?

    View

Once NMCRS submits a “stop” request to DFAS, it is in the hands of DFAS to act upon the request. It can take up to 60 days for the stop to be implemented by DFAS. Unfortunately, there are instances in which the stop is not implemented, and NMCRS must submit a second request.

Also, while NMCRS makes every effort to ensure a stopped allotment is not restarted at a later date, it does happen infrequently. Once NMCRS is informed of the accidental restart, we submit a request to DFAS for it to be stopped. Again, there is a lag (60 days) between when a request is submitted to DFAS and adjustments are made.

  • Who can I speak with at NMCRS about the Retiree Fund Drive or my allotment?
